Things I've Learnt About the UK #5 - A common

If someone says that they want to meet you at the common, it doesn't mean that you need to worry that you are meeting at the town's solitary person of lower social standing, nor the residence of a local rapper. Commons are, in fact, pretty green spaces that usually reside in the centre of a town and provide many hours of frivolity and laughter, especially in the summer with a frisbee, dog or cello.
It is also the main location of the strange phenomenon, where British people shed clothes as soon as the sun is visible, even if the temperature is barely above 5.
For example, Norton Common, which sits at the end of my road, is rather pretty and does make you feel like you've stepped into Narnia when it's covered in snow. However, rather common commons are not uncommon. Clapham Common is, indeed, a bit dodgy. Not only because of the alarming number of Australian, New Zealand and South African people walking around looking cold, but apparently it's also where politicians bum people.
